The city of Jelgava and the municipal authority “Kultūra” invites you to visit the International Sand Sculpture Festival “Summer Signs”, which will take place in Jelgava, Pasts Island, from 10–11 June.

This summer, the city of Jelgava will become a symbolical stage to 17 professional sculptors from Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, France, Russia and Portugal that will create sand sculptures in their various interpretations of the festival’s topic – theatre.

Theatre is one of the most ancient forms of art that began in the Ancient Greece and later in Ancient Rome. However, the theatre will not take place on the stage – we will see, hear and feel it all around us during the day. Dolls, masks, circus and roles are a part of the political, social and artistic theatre.

The sculptors have to play with the theatre motif, allowing the spectator’s imagination to let loose and ponder the meaning of theatre in life and the everyday. All together, more than 1000 tonnes of sand will be used for the sand sculptures.

No festival can do without various musical surprises, which will be created by the Triana Park, Ivo Fomins, Normunds Rutulis, Tumsa, Franco Franco, Opus Pro and others. Families and children have not been forgotten, as all day long the Sand Sculpture Park will be filled with musical shows and concerts where children will be able to play together with various beloved characters.

The International Sand Sculpture Festival in Jelgava has become the largest of this type of competition in the Baltics. The unique open-air event during the summer season is one of the main tourist destinations in Latvia, gathering thousands of visitors not only from Latvia but also from abroad.

Tickets purchased in advance are cheaper, until 9 June, in “Biļešu paradīze” box offices and on www.bilesuparadize.lv
