In Jelgava, Superhero’s will come to life in the works of artists from seven countries

30 professional artists from seven countries have been chosen to participate in 22. International Ice sculpture festival, which will be held in Jelgava from 7th until 9th of February. Dream of superpower and formation of new heroes. Heroes in our dally life and in the pages of history books – in less than a week, creating 45 competition sculptures, artists will bring to life 2020 years festival theme “Superhero’s”.

This year organisers of festival, Jelgava city and establishment "Kultūra", have received 111 individual and over 50 team sculpture sketches from 18 countries. The selection process was particularly difficult, as not only were the sketches and ideas evaluated, but also the artist’s experience, potential and compliance with the theme.

Looking for creative ideas, different techniques and new artist’s jury have chosen 30 sculptors who will have chance to realize their ideas this February in Jelgava. In the submitted sketches, the sculptors have expressed their creative imagination and the theme has been interpreted in various ways. The festival will not only give us a chance to view these unique works, but also encourage us to think about why the artist saw the theme this way.

Artists from seven countries - Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Belorussia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Finland have been chosen to demonstrate their talent in two categories – individual and team. During the festival there will be made 45 competition sculptures – 30 small (individual) and 15 large (team). Starting from 2nd of February artists will began their work on sculptures.

For visitors festival will be open starting from 7th until 9th of February, in Jelgava – Post island, J. Čakste boulevard and for the first time in open air concert hall “Mītava”. Traditionally togeather with competition sculpures festival invites to discover over 60 larger and smaller artworks made from ice, surprising and interesting culture programme and activities for whole family.

International ice sculpture festival is organzied by Jelgava city and establishment “Kultūra”.

Visitors of the festival are informed that there will be taken photos and videos. Produced material can be used without any restrictions.
