Ice Superheroes meet in Jelgava!

From February 7th to 9th, meet your favourite superheroes in Jelgava, at the largest ice sculpture festival in the Baltics! More than 60 works of art made of ice, demonstration duels, pyrotechnics and light shows, as well as an extensive cultural programme with Latvian superstars.

This will be the 22nd year when the city of Jelgava invites you to enjoy the magic of amazing ice art. This year, together with 30 professional sculptors from all around the world, let our fantasies unwind and revive our superpowers in the largest gathering of ice superheroes. The venue: Pasta Island, J. Čakste Boulevard and open-air concert hall Mītava.

SUPERHEROES FROM HOLLYWOOD, HISTORY BOOKS AND OUR DAILY LIVES

Although we most often associate superheroes with the characters of Hollywood movies and their adventures, it is always worth remembering that heroes also exist among the legends of our own people, in the pages of history books and in our daily lives. That is how various and amazing the sculptures of the 22nd International Ice Sculpture Festival made by 30 world-renowned sculptors from 7 countries will be.

Interpreting the festival topic - Superheroes - masterfully, this time the contestants will demonstrate their skills in two categories. They will create a total of 45 unique works of art made of ice, the tallest one of which will be almost 3 meters high. The sculptors will arrive in Jelgava on the 2nd of February and work on the sculptures will continue throughout the week.

During the festival, along with the competition sculptures, the traditional "Ledus vīni"  ice bar created by the best Latvian sculptor in terms of awards received Kārlis Īle and his team will delight the festival guests and will be the biggest object of the festival in terms of the amount of ice used. There will also be activities for children and photo sculptures.

For the first time, visitors will be given the opportunity to see the meeting of ice and sand sculptures, as the large sculpture of the summer festival - the sphinx with pyramids - has been preserved on the Pasta Island and will be specially illuminated.

ICE ART DEMONSTRATIONS AND AN EXTENSIVE CULTURAL PROGRAMME

Winter has not been spoiling us, but that is no cause for concern - there will be ice in Jelgava. Actively creating new ice objects throughout the three days of the festival, the best sculptors from Latvia will demonstrate their superpowers in various demonstration duels and shows.

For the first time, we will also celebrate the festival under the roof of the new open-air concert hall Mītava, where the youngest visitors can enjoy fun games, watch demonstrations of magic tricks and participate in interesting workshops all day long. During the festival, people will also have the opportunity to use the skating-rink of Pasta Island nearby.

In the evening programme, Latvian musicians - Astro’n’out, Franco Franco, Ralfs Eilands, A-Europa, Singapūras Satīns and many more - will perform on the main stage of the festival at J. Čakste Boulevard. The evening will be concluded with fireworks and a light show.

In partnership with Tonuss and The Blow clubs, this year the festival will feature DJs at the entrances of Pasta Island and Čakste Boulevard, who will welcome visitors with music, announcing current events and information about the programme.

The programme may change due to changing weather. Follow the Facebook page of the festival and be the first one to find out the latest information.

Visitors of the event are invited to dress according to the weather and, before going to Jelgava, acquaint themselves with the traffic organisation plan, which will also be available on the Waze mobile app during the festival.

Taking into account the impact of the weather on the sculptures, we invite you to go see the sculptures on Friday night.
